If you are reading this I am asking you to be a contributing artist in Collect/Disperse. Please fill out the form below and mail plates, mugs, bowls or anything ceramic to:
467 Commercial Street
If you are local you are welcome to leave them at the drop off location on site. The objects can be chipped or broken. They can be something you have had for a long time, or something from a thrift store. You can contribute a stack of plates, a single mug or a broken figurine. Anything as long as it is ceramic, no milk glass or plastic please.
The description of the plates in the archive can include any thing from “blue plate with stripes, Austin Texas; found in a free box;” or “gift from a loved one.” I am interested in our collected stories and how we relate to, use, and let go of once useful objects. Once the plates arrive onsite they will be unpacked and become a part of anonymous stacks.
I have invited five women, who have supported my vision and have intimate connections to this site to be a part of the performance. During this durational performance on Saturday October 10, 2015 our collective histories will be broken and dispersed along the shoreline. These broken plates, and each of the people they come from, will become part of the transformation of the site, a means to hold open space that may otherwise be lost.
The time spent lying there under the weight of passing cars, exposed to the salt air, transforms the shards to stones. The worn pieces of once-whole plates begin to resemble sea glass, only fragments of words and pictures remaining. In return for your energy and participation in Collect/Disperse, I would like to send you a weathered shard in 2016. Please indicate if you would like to receive a shard in the mail.
You are welcome to visit the site of this performance and installation by going to 467 Commercial street in the East End of Provincetown. The installation is on the land outside of Angel Foods Market. All are welcome to visit, drop whole plates off and take pieces away. Thank you for your time and energy, the project can not happen without you.
